Starbucks available on Android

When it comes to mobile payment space, Starbucks is one of the leaders in the industry. The Starbucks for Android app was launched more than a year ago and recently, the company has decided to make it more popular. Thus, the 2 – D barcode payment option will be seriously ingrained all over the world, including the United States.

The famous coffee company has improved the Starbucks for Android app and has delivered a whole new version. This new application will make the mobile pay functionality available for clients in Canada and the UK. Additionally, the company has developed additional features, a new and fresh design and an enhanced code base. Thus, this app becomes as functional as the iOS Starbucks flagship application. Adam Brotman, the chief digital officer of Starbucks declared that preparing the stage for the future applications for iOS and Android is very exciting and appealing for the company. He also declared on VentureBeat that due to this release, people should expect a faster rate of innovation and releases on the mobile platforms in the near future.

Brotman added that thanks to the improved Android application, the company can offer the same great experience to Android users as they used to offer to iOS users. Brotman also said that it took so long for Android customers to enjoy the same features because it was quite complicated to create the new design and architecture.

The Android app now provides improved payment and loyalty features. Until recently, these functions were available only on iPhone. Thus, the Starbucks for Android app uses PayPal to offer card reload. Additionally, it protects the digital Starbucks card thanks to an innovative pin code option and comes with a rewards history control panel. The application also features a home screen widget that has an icon which allows users to pay and a star and card balance count. When a customer acquires 15 stars, he/she gets a free drink.

The most interesting fact is that Starbucks, a huge company with tech ambitions has made the app available for the UK and Canada customers as well. By doing this, it has developed a new channel that can bring on increased revenues. Moreover, recently, Starbucks officials declared that in the future the mobile payment system will become available globally. Specific launch plans are not yet revealed, but the company said that almost a dozen countries are analyzed for expansion opportunities.

The mobile pay was released in January 2011. Since then, American citizens have made almost 50 million mobile payments. Brotman said that currently, the company has to deal with more than 1 million mobile payments per week. Customers in Canada and the UK have only had the iPhone app until now, so Starbucks officials don’t know yet how well the barcode payment is doing in these countries. Lastly, Adam Brotman said that in the near future, the Starbucks Company will come up with a combined Canada, UK and US mobile payment figure to suit the demands of everyone.
